This is the one that got away; I loved our insight and the work, but Yahoo never embraced it and barely ran it. Since then, the company has only gone downhill. (Clearly it’s because they didn’t listen to us.) Let me set the stage. Google was about to launch its IPO. Yahoo was scared. They wanted to be what they once were: the preeminent search engine. We told them, forget it. Not possible. That moment in internet history has passed. But you can be more than a search engine. You have the largest base of users of any site ever. People use you in a zillion different ways. You’re more than a search engine. You’re a ----well, I don’t want to give it away.
